Writing to Improve

Let's talk about writing to improve. How do you write to improve? Well, the answer is simple. Write! Anytime you write you will improve your skill as a writer. The reason behind this is that all writers come up with new and interesting ideas for each session of writing. If the writing session is short or long, it does not matter because the process of improvement is always taking place. So go write to improve!

Go Write Now!

Writing is one of the most liberating skills a person can possess. Be it creative writing or technical writing, it does not matter. If the writer neglects his/her passion to write, the skill can fade from the acquired prowess. That is why it is important for writers to do what they do best. Write! From personal experience, I have found that a writer always has time to write. Writing does not have to be perfect. As long as you write, you are using that skill and constantly expanding it. So what are you waiting for? Go write now!

One Day At A Time

Hello!  It is the beginning of the semester.  There are so many things you might have going on with school.  Do not overwhelm yourself with all the things you have to do.  Just remember to take it one day at a time.  You can survive!

A Writer's Work is Never Finished!

If there is one thing that any writer should know, it is that writing is not just a hobby -it is a hobby of dedication. Writing is not something that is merely done and forgotten. Writing is something that is done continuously by the person that embraces the hobby and declares ownership of it. When people write something and say they are finished, they are never really finished. The writing process continues to cycle in their mind even when they say they are finished. Thoughts of "what if I do this" or "what if I had done that" are a constant stream that flows through the dedicated writer's mind. I know this feeling from personal experience in my own writing. If you don't believe me, go and write something. Let's see if you believe that a writer's work is never finished.

Writing Delusions of Grandeur

Every writer, at one point or another, wants to write the "prefect" paper. It's the fantasy paper that clearly explains your position while reaching the word count requirement with ease, has the prefect thesis, and has absolutely no grammatical or spelling errors. Such a feat must surely be impossible. Shouldn't it? Is it really impossible to write a paper free of errors? No. Is having a well structured and sound thesis crazy talk? Not really. Is reaching 750 words an act of God? Absolutely not! All of these are completely doable, and are simply a few characteristics of good papers. So where does the idea of the "perfect" paper really loom from? From what I have seen, the idea of writing the perfect paper comes from the notion that we can will it into existence. The idea of the prefect paper shows itself when a you have a 10 page research paper due next week, or when that scholarship essay is your last hope. Without fail it will show up when stress levels are elevated and desperation has fully set in. The thought of being able to pull such a paper out of thin air is what feeds the myth. No paper starts off perfect. Writing takes time, and with time comes experience. The more experience you have at anything, the less of a hassle you will find it to be. That doesn't necessarily mean that it will be easier; however, you definitely will find your assignments more manageable. Perfectionism has no place in the mind of a writer because it belongs in the mind of an editor. As a writer you can always add a little something extra to a paper. Just write. Write until you have said all that you can. Then all that is left to do is edit.
