Write for Life

Three little words with a lot of punch: Write for Life. Before we ever opened the doors, our team brainstormed for weeks to create a slogan to represent our mission. And these three words do the job. We help students write for all aspects of life, including college success (the most obvious), employment applications, social media (Where would we be without Facebook??), daily writing, on-the-job communication, etc. Life is centered around communication, and writing is our longest lasting form. We aren't just here to help students get a good grade. We want to help them grow as writers--for life.

But our slogan has a double meaning. Read it carefully. That tiny preposition carries a lot of weight in our language. Not only does for mean "with the purpose of," but it also means "in order to gain." Yep. We wholeheartedly believe writing helps people achieve a better life. As we grow as writers, our voice carries more weight because we can communicate our message better. Whether that's a simple email or a primary election speech, the mission is the same: Get people to listen.

We're all about better writers, not just better papers. So step on in to the Writing Center and let us help you Write for Life.

Before my junior year of high school, I only associated writing with academics. If there was no essay or term paper, then I was not writing. It wasn't until one late Saturday night that I randomly decided to write a poem. I loved it, and kept writing poetry until I eventually hungered for something more. Writing the dialogue for a comic that I never released fed my addiction, but that still was not enough. Today my greatest ambition is to become a novelist. I love writing, and I do not understand why it took me so long to realize it.

Over the past 4 years I've become a better writer because I understand that writing is directly linked to nearly every aspect of my life. Even though I didn't hear the slogan until well after I had already fallen in love with writing, nothing sums up the way I feel better than Write for Life. To me, Write for Life is not just a slogan; it is a lifestyle choice.
